Android Studio was unable to find a JVM

I kept having issues launching android studio because it kept giving me an error that said “Android Studio was unable to find a JVM”. I knew that I had Java installed correctly, but for some reason it would not find it.

Here is the simple fix. There is an environment variable that can be set.

Open terminal and put in:

launchctl setenv STUDIO_JDK /path/to/your/jdk

For me it was:

launchctl setenv STUDIO_JDL /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_71.jdk

A Movie A Day

Do you think it is possible to watch a movie a day for a year? Most people watch enough TV that if they watched a movie instead of watching tv. I am getting bored of all the boring TV there is today. Now that Shameless is over and the only thing worth waiting for every week is Doctor Who, I have decided that I want to try this movie a day thing. Since I currently have 468 items in the Netflix DVD queue, and 268 in my Instant Watch queue, I doubt that I will run out of things to watch.

Andromeda Strain Movie PosterSo today, 5/12, I started with the 1971 Sci-Fi Classic Andromeda Strain. While not a bad movie, I wouldn’t say that it is an amazing movie. It was a bit slow to get started, and maybe there could have been 15 minutes less of “de-contamination” but overall it was enjoyable. It represents the type of movie that just doesn’t get made anymore. There wasn’t much action, and focused around a group of non-sexy scientists, which you would never see today. Hell take the new Thor movie. Natalie Portman plays the sexy scientist. Here Kate Reid plays the scientist, and she is not super sexy.

Either way I think that if you haven’t seen it and you consider yourself into the whole Sci-Fi genre it is a must see. it shows you how far we’ve come when it comes to generic germ warfare movies.

Who is Rebecca Black?

Unless you are under an internet rock, you’ve at least heard mention of Rebecca Black. She is the new Justin Beiber you could say. If you haven’t heard of her at all then first check out her music video for her single Friday.

But in reality who is she and where did she come from? How did she get the opportunity to produce and record this song?

Rebecca Black is a 13 year old singer from Anaheim California. So that means that 13 she has already had more Youtube hits than you ever will. The key thing to know is that she has been trying to break into the entertainment industry for years. She’s gone to dancing school, tried out for multiple Disney type shows and never really quite made it.

So how did she break through? Her mom paid a company called Ark Music Factory to write two songs for her and produce a music video. Working with the vanity publishing company, Rebecca recorded, auto-tuned and produced the song and video. Once the video hit YouTube it went viral. I still have no explanation as to how a video goes viral but it did. Now she has been on Leno and TMZ and all the other major media pop sections.

Will Rebecca stick around and make new songs? Who knows, but I’m sure she and Ark Music Factory are reaping in some benefits of the new found success. You can buy her single form iTunes, and ring tones and the like.

If you are a die hard Rebecca Black fanatic you should check out the Rebecca Black Artist Page

My thoughts on this whole thing. She found a niche and she hit it on the nail and she was successful at it. Maybe it wasn’t the type of breakthrough that she wanted, but now everyone knows her name and have heard her song. She has gotten farther than some people do in an entire life time and for that she should be proud.

The Simpsons New Years Challenge

simpsons_family.jpg

So with the new year here I wanted to get back to my roots and start watching The Simpsons again. I didn’t just want to start watching the syndicated reruns that they air on TV, so I decided that I would put my seasons of Simpsons on DVD, and the ones available on Netflix. to good use. I am going to watch all of the Simpsons in order, starting from the first episode. What are we up to now? 23 seasons? That should take me until the end of the year.

Six String Samurai or WTF is this?

Six String Samurai DVDSo I’m sitting here watching Six String Samurai and all I can say is WTF is this? But in a good way. This movie seems to be a mix of bad samurai films, a little bit of El Mariachi, splash in a bit of A Boy and his Dog, and then garnish it with the umbrella from El Topo. This is one of those movies that is a must see if you are into indie cult camp films, which for me are a hit or miss. This one is a hit for me just on the acting of Buddy, the main Samurai Rocker. The voice and the mannerisms are prefect for the character.

Oh and did I mention that the soundtrack is done by the Red Elvises, a Soviet / American band that plays rockabilly music.

Pictures of Yo-Landi Vi$$er

I was trolling around the interwebs and found some pics of Yo-Landi Vi$$er from South Africa’s Die Antwoord. If you haven’t heard their music yet you should check it out. Enjoy the pics.

The Box

I just got done watching The Box with Cameron Diaz. It was good! I wasn’t expecting much at all, but I thought that it was a good suspense thriller movie. The sci-fi aspect of it could have been better but the story line was enough to keep me engaged throughout the film. I consider it a good movie because for the last couple of hours after I watched it I have been thinking a lot about it. What would I do in that situation? What are the implications of what is happening in the film. If you haven’t seen it I suggest giving it a shot.

Tik Tok by Ke$ha

There is one song that I can’t get out of my head and that is Tik Tok by Ke$ha. It is laced with so much teen pop goodness that it is so bad that it’s good. Every time the song comes on the radio my first instinct is to change it, but then all of a sudden I’m grooving to the beat. I saw the video and it was nothing at all like I expected. I thought it would be more rap video-ish (dancing and half naked girls) and less house party video, but I was wrong. Check it out below:

Ke$ha, whose real name is Kesha Rose Sebert, has been making music since 2005. She has a lot more then this first song. She sang backup on Paris Hilton’s song “Nothing in the World” and Britney Spear’s song “Lace and Leather”. She also broke in to Prince’s house in order to give him the her demo tape. That is a little crazy, but I mean look at those eyes. Those are some crazy eyes.

Anyway check out her songs, they are worth putting on your going out Friday night party mix.
